ZsDuplicateHunter allows users to easily find and safely remove duplicate files from a computer, saving hard drive space and making common operations like backups and searches faster. Duplicates can be grouped by any combination of name, size, and checksum. Grouping by checksum ensures that the contents of two files are identical.
After zsDuplicateHunter has finished searching a computer for duplicate files, the results are displayed to the user. Version 2.0 allows the user to display duplicates by path in addition to the group based view offered in previous versions. The viewing by path offers a summary for each file and folder which includes the number of duplicates found in each folder. In both views, version 2.0 adds a timestamp to the display to help determine which copy of a file should be retained. The format of the timestamp can be customized into any desired format.
Version 2.0 of zsDuplicateHunter adds six new methods of deleting duplicate files for a total of seven different methods of deleting duplicate files. This is more than any other duplicate file finder currently on the market. Methods of deleting duplicate files range from simply deleting selected files, to deleting all duplicate files of a selected file, to deleting all duplicates except the newest file, to advanced methods like deleting all duplicates of files that are not within a specific folder. This range of methods ensures that there will always be an easy method of removing unwanted duplicate files.
Version 2.0 makes deleting duplicate files as safe as possible by allowing users to not search hidden and system files, allowing users to move files to a backup location rather than permanently deleting them, presenting warning dialogs before permanently deleting files, and allowing users to ignore or remove files from the results which they want to preserve. ZsDuplicateHunter has been designed to run on Windows operating systems as well as Mac OS X 10.3 or later.
