Some people believe that you cannot recover deleted text messages. However, this is a myth and you can recover messages that have been deleted with the help of a software program that is downloaded to the computer called SIM Card Recovery, or other similar software program that can retrieve deleted or otherwise lost messages from SIM cards.

Connecting the card reader to the cell phone and the computer while using the recovery program will uncover the messages in addition to other information commonly found on a SIM card including contact information, make and model of the phone, IMEI number and more. The user can then view and save the information onto the PC or other drive.

While most people use phones that have SIMs, unfortunately, some phones do not use physical SIMs. These phones cannot recover any messages, since there is no SIM to recover the messages from.

Additionally, some cell phone companies delete the messages permanently instead of simply marking them as deleted.

In the case that a cell phone company permanently deletes messages, there is no way to recover deleted text messages from the phone, even with a SIM reader and recovery program.
